All Work And No Foos (Part 2)
Welcome to the second and final part of the Web Africa Foosball Tournament blog series! For those who happened to miss Part 1 you can check it out here. The EPIC JULY FOOSBALL TOURNEY!! was held last Friday, the 29th of July 2011 and it was a blast! Employees from all around the office gathered after work in our renowned games room to enjoy lots of refreshments (what’s foos without pizza and booze? Nothingness!).
Tension was definitely thick, especially with everyone realising that the top spot was still dangling like a morsel and there were 4 big fishes gunning for the taste of that victory! To recap, the top 4 teams – Joncan, BMW Fanatics, Shamru and Beast were sitting at 13, 13, 13, 11 points respectively, with a possible 6 points up for grabs!
The first round of play was full of shockers – BMW Fanatics lost by a wide margin to Heathcreath, while Shamru defeated top spot holder Joncan. Power Junkies failed to bump themselves up from the bottom of the table by once again losing to Beast, while Shockwave Express sent shock waves down to Team F!
At this point, Joncan, Beast and BMW Fanatics already knew their chances of victory were hanging by a thread as they hoped Shamru would lose by a wide margin so that the top spot would reopen. Joncan and Beast won their games in the second round and that’s when everyone realised that this was not gonna be over until Shamru played their game – WHICH THEY WON! The cracking sounds were not of spectators stuffing their faces with delicious crisps, but only of Joncan and Beast’s hearts breaking as they realised they had lost by a close shave.
Everyone was happy, winners were congratulated, pizza boxes were emptied and everyone had a ball! Awards were as follows:
● Winner – Shamru
● 1st Runner Up – Joncan
● 2nd Runner Up – Beast
● Golden Boot (Team with the most goals scored) – Shamru
● There is ‘Me’ in Team (Most incomplete team throughout the tournament) – Power Junkies
● Rubber Boot (Team with the most goals conceded) – Power Junkies
