Smartcom consortium invests in WA
12 Feb 2009
WebAfrica has seen some incredible growth over the last few years and even more so over the last two years. Being that we are forever searching for the next step and growing bigger has always been our goal it was a logical choice to bring on investors as means to grow our network and product range.

Our Company prides itself on it's level of service and reputation in the Industry. It was therefore essential that we bring a Company on board that share our vision and standards of quality.

It was thus with great pleasure that our GM and MD announced to the staff that they had reached and signed an agreement with Smartcom / Smartcall who have purchased a non-controlling, 30% share in WebAfrica.

Rupert Bryant (GM of WA) had this to say about the choice: "After some hunting, we found a group of really awesome guys - Smartcom / Smartcall, an exclusive Vodacom Service Provider specialising in pre-paid cellular in SA. Culturally, Smartcom share many of the same traits as us making them an ideal fit. Smartcom had over 4 million prepaid connections and grew rapidly (aprox 50% per annum) over four years to boast just under R4 billion turn-over for the 2005 financial year! In 2007 they sold off their subscriber base to Vodacom and in just over a year they have built up 40,000 contract subscribers on their Smartcom division and over a million prepaid subscribers under their Smartcall brand! They currently employ around 50 staff and are based in Jhb."

All of us here at Web Africa are very excited about the partnership and the new opportunities and growth it will bring
