Africa is one of the fastest growing continents in the world in terms of Internet connectivity and usage, with 7 percent of the globe’s total Internet users, and has a massive mobile phone market, with phone owners outnumbering those in the US and Europe. Nigeria has the biggest Internet population, followed by Egypt, Morocco and Kenya, with South Africa ranked in fifth place.

While the continent faces infrastructural challenges which mean most people don’t have any access to the Internet, each year more and more people are connected to the world wide web, and projects such as Google’s Loon aim to increase Internet access over the next few years.
