Which is Right for Me?

Is Business ADSL right for me?

Web Africa’s Business ADSL range has been designed to provide you and your business with the best internet service possible. Not only have we ensured priority for business applications such as email, ftp downloads and voice over IP (Skype and so on) but our Business Uncapped range makes use of our Titanium Quality bandwidth to deliver fast and reliable internet access.

We offer four types of Business ADSL products: Business Uncapped; Business Capped; and two pro accounts - Business Uncapped Pro and Business Capped Pro. The Pro packages come at a slightly higher cost but are packed with extra features and receive prioritised bandwidth which means you don’t have to worry about heavy internet traffic holding up your business.

Uncapped v Capped

Uncapped packages allow you to use the internet as much as you want (subject to our transparent and fair Acceptable Use Policy). The convenience of Uncapped is that you don't have to worry about running out of GBs or having to top up if you do. Capped data packages simply set a monthly ceiling on your data usage.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further information on our General ADSL Usage Policy.

What are Static IPs?

A static web address is one that is manually assigned to your computer. Static IP addresses enable you to connect to your PC from anywhere in the world. You can also host your own website, mail server, FTP server and gaming server, as well as minimise downtime by using Static IPs.

Capped internet packages give you a fixed amount of data that you can use as you like. You pay upfront for your gigs; the speed at which you can access them is dictated by your ADSL line. Capped data enjoys both full ADSL line speed and a higher quality priority on our network to make it ideal for businesses that need that extra bit of speed as well as those who know how much data they use, or want to use, during the month.

What line speed (Mbps) options do I have?

  • 1Mbps

Suitable for small teams that don't need data-intensive services, 1Mbps is the answer for general internet browsing, online banking, emailing and the occasional download.

  • 2Mbps

Best for small to medium-sized teams that are active online but not overly dependent on fast speeds. It's the right speed for general internet use for both you and your business.

  • 4Mbps

Now this is fast internet! 4Mbps is for teams that need quick speeds and consume lots of data-heavy online media in addition to normal usage.

  • 10Mbps

Delivering an exceptionally fast internet experience, 10Mbps is perfect for viewing online videos in High Definition and blistering fast downloads plus excellent voice/video quality.

  • 20Mbps

The second fastest internet connection available in South Africa, at full speed 20Mbps can download a 1GB file in just 8 minutes.

  • 40Mbps

There's nothing faster in South Africa. If speed is important to you then 40Mbps VDSL is what you need; at full speed it will download a 1GB file in a lightning-fast 4 minutes.

What does Mbps mean?

Mbps stands for Megabits per second. It refers to the speed that data travels on the internet. ('Speed' is how fast you can browse and download content from the internet.) The more speed you have, the faster your files will download. So, downloading 1GB will take just over two hours on a 1Mbps connection but only 14 minutes on a 10Mbps connection.

Bundled versus Unbundled

A bundled product solution is one where an ADSL line and a data package are purchased at the same time. In contrast, an unbundled product is one which is purchased alone (ie. An ADSL line without data OR data without an ADSL line). We do not offer customers the option to purchase unbundled products; hence the following scenario is relevant: If a bundled solution is purchased initially and the data portion is subsequently cancelled, then the remaining ADSL line is classified as an unbundled product. The unbundled ADSL line will now attract a higher cost (Extra costs range from R15 – R50 pm depending on your line speed).

What do I need to get connected?

With Web Africa you only need four things:

  1. A monthly-billed Telkom telephone line.
  2. An ADSL line through us at a reduced rate or via Telkom directly.
  3. A router which you can buy from us
  4. Your ADSL data through us.

If you choose to take your Business Uncapped ADSL line through us, you will not only enjoy a reduced monthly rate (see below) but our team of experts will also deal with Telkom directly to get it set up and transferred over, and we'll deal with any problems or faults on your behalf!

Does my team size affect my internet speed icon image.

Does my team size affect my internet speed?

Yes it does. While the internet speed we provide you with remains the same, the more people you have using your internet, the more your bandwidth is shared between them. And based on their usage, speed will indeed be affected. So for larger teams we recommend our faster ADSL line options (4Mbps & 10Mbps).

What if I want to upgrade, downgrade or cancel?

You can upgrade or downgrade at any time simply by logging onto our DSL management console online and choosing your new package. Upgrades are instant; downgrades are activated at month end if initiated before the 20th of that month.

Web Africa doesn't do contracts so if you want to cancel our service, just give us a calendar month's notice - it's as simple as that! And although we can't speak for the other guys, we have no hidden setup or cancellation fees or any sundry costs.
