Why is my site not on Google?

Why is my site not on Google?

Once your website has gone live it can take at least a week to be indexed by Google. This process is called Web Crawling, using  software robots or ‘spiders’ to crawl through your site. These spiders then store and index all of your website content including all internal links, copy, images, etc and inbound links that are linking to your website. Once Google has indexed all of your pages it can take another period of time for the results to be stored on Google’s servers and appear in searches.

How do I get on the first page of searches?

When someone searches for a word or phrase in Google, your website is competing with millions and millions of other pages, making it extremely difficult for your website to rank first or on page 1 of the results. The odds of being found for a specific phrase are therefore much higher than a very general term and help illustrate the importance of focused key words throughout your website. Google’s indexing systems note many different aspects of pages, such as how long the web page has existed, the frequency and location of keywords within the Web page, the number of inbound links and many more.

According to Google:

“Relevancy is determined by over 200 factors, one of which is the PageRank for a given page. PageRank is the measure of the importance of a page based on the incoming links from other pages. In simple terms, each link to a page on your site from another site adds to your site’s PageRank. Not all links are equal: Google works hard to improve the user experience by identifying spam links and other practices that negatively impact search results. The best types of links are those that are given based on the quality of your content.”

How can I get my site noticed by Google?

All websites designed by Web Africa are already optimised for SEO. There are how however a few important strategies you can employ to help increase your chances of ranking well:

Quality Content

If your create content on a regular basis and contain useful information or products, the content will attract many visitors and entice other sites to link to your site. In creating a helpful, information-rich site, include copy and images that clearly and accurately describe your product or service.

Update your content on a regular basis

This tells Google your site has been updated and signals relevancy. It also provides more indexable keywords and internal links.

Link Building

The concept behind link building is to get outside links to your websites from other sites in relevant industries. This builds your website’s authority in the eyes of Google and helps increase traffic to your site. Think of links as ‘votes’ for your site.

Social Media

Although this is not weighted heavily in Google’s algorithm, it is still a factor and therefore helps you to rank the more social shares you get.
