What’s new in the world of South African streaming this June? We already have the duvets out and the pop-corn is popping in the microwave, but with so much good content out there it can be hard to decide what to watch.

This is what our Webafricans will be watching this month:

What’s new on Showmax in June 2019

Get Shorty

Based on the iconic novel by Elmore Leonard (and later a movie featuring John Travolta), this series follows the escapades of Miles Daly, a gangster who tries to go straight, with some unexpected consequences.

The Outcasts

A high school retaliation comedy about two girls who are tired of being bullied by the “mean girl” at school and decide to gather the outcasts to gain sweet revenge.

Sleepless

Jamie Fox plays a dirty cop who’s son is kidnapped by a group of scary mobsters. Now he has to rescue his son, stay out of trouble with the officials and of course get revenge.

Insecure – S3

If you’ve already been following the antics of Molly and Issa you will understand why our Webafrican viewers are looking forward to seeing what these girls come up with next in their struggle to navigate life.

Che Part 1 & 2

If you’ve ever wondered about the iconic revolutionary – Che Guevara, then you should definitely catch this biographical film. The first part takes you through the Cuban Revolution and the second part looks at how Che tried to revolutionize Bolivia.

What’s new on Netflix South Africa in June 2019

Catching Feelings

This is a South African dark romantic comedy and if you haven’t watched it yet then now’s the moment as it has just recently arrived on our local Netflix offerings.

The Jungle Book

A new generation will get to love Mowgli and the animals of the Indian jungle in this incredibly animated re-make of the classic Jungle Book. With Mowgli played by a real actor and the animals uncanny in their life-like animation – there is a whole new sense of magic in this new take on an old favourite.

Marvel Luke Cage – S2

We loved him so much in Jessica Jones that Marvel (and Netflix) simply had to give him a series of his own. This is one of those cases where the spin-off is (almost) better than the original show. Season two is arriving on our screen on 22 June and we will be waiting with the popcorn.

In case you missed it:

Ultraman – a Netflix Orginal Anime Series

For the anime-lovers among us, what better than aliens, heroes, and a metallic ultra-suit to keep you entertained? The young protagonist – Shinjiro – must take up his father’s role to save the planet. It was released on Netflix in April but we’ve just found it so it’s on our June watch list in a big way.
